I am getting an update nag at the top of Firefox 67.0 64 bit for Windows even though that is the current version. It began as soon as I upgraded to 67.0 and it is extremely annoying.

The update message you shared isn't coming from Firefox, it's coming from the support website.

Do you see the message on any other websites?

I have apparently solved the problem by going into options and manually checking for an update there. Of course there was no update because I was already current, but that ended the nag. I originally updated because an automatic update check showed an update which I applied. It appears that a manual update will disable the nag, but a manually applied update from an automatic update check will not disable the nag.

That was very good work. Well done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.

I apparently spoke too soon. I viewed your two replies by using the link in the notification in Thunderbird and there was no nag. When I logged in to flag the post as solved the nag reappeared, so I have attached a screen shot.

I just noticed something. Although I am running the 64 bit version of Firefox on Win7 the program is installed in "Program Files (x86)" which is the 32 bit program folder (the 64 bit program folder is just "Program Files"). When I upgraded from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS and then upgraded Firefox to the 64 bit version it stayed in the 32 bit OS folder. Could that have something to do with my problem?

I just checked some other sites and do not see it. Is the support site incapable of knowing that a user is running the current version, or does it just nag everybody?

I'm not sure how it's set up, it's probably just notifying everyone.

As to where the program is stored, "Program Files (x86)", that does not matter as long as the computer can find it.

That banner on top of the support.mozilla.org site has been up there for some 2 1/2 weeks now to inform people about the issue of not being able to install or use Extensions at the time due to an expired certificate since May 3rd.

One of the ways to fix the issue was to install Firefox 66.0.4/66.0.5 (which is what the "updated" version is referring to) or later like the 67.0 now out as of May 21.

The banner is there to give you a heads up on this situation regardless of what web browser you are using unless you click on the [X] to make it disappear.
