I know this may be an old question but for me it is becoming a daily issue. I have several email accounts in Thunderbird that all have saved passwords. But , the Virgin Media one is constantly asking for a password, sometimes more than once a day!

Before I get all the usual answers, I have tried them all.

Deleting passwords, deleting accounts, saving passwords when asked ......

Now I am aware that this may not be a Thunderbird fault , but why is it only an issue with a Virgin Media email account?

It feels like Virgin Media are causing the issue but are not interested in working with Mozilla to resolve the issue(s).

Can you give me any hope of staying with Thunderbird and not having to move to another client that does not have this issue?

Does Thunderbird successfully fetch messages from your Virgin Media mailbox once you enter the requested password? Does Tbird save this password in its password vault alongside those of the other accounts?

Hi Stans!

Once the password is entered everything works just fine until I close and re-open Thunderbird.

Messages are retrieved from VM OK and the password is saved into the vault as expected.

I have entries for inbox ( IMAP) messages and also sending messages ( SMTP) in the password vault.

Now, I get the issue always when I first run Thunderbird , but it can repeat if I close and re-open it.

Do you have Thunderbird configured to accept cookies?

That's a new one to me in Thunderbird!

Exactly how and where do I check for that?

Assuming you're using the latest release version 68.9.0, cookies settings are found in Options > Privacy > Web Content

I am using the latest version of TB -> 68.9.0 (32-bit).

Yes they are set to always accept and keep until they expire.

I do not quite see where this is going Stans?

Blocking cookies is known to cause server login issues, especially when the currently authenticated session is terminated and a new one is started, for example when you close and re-open Tbird, so I'm covering all the bases I can think of to eliminate them as the cause of this behaviour. A little patience on your part would be great, unless you'd rather ditch this issue and move on altogether. Before I offer any further investigative steps, let me know if you're still interested in fixing this issue so that I don't spend any more of my time and energy on a lost cause.

I downloaded the new Thunderbird 78 and it refuses to recognize my original password, or a new password if I change it. Should I go through the cookies suggestion you made for this problem as well? Thanks!
