when i order something on line with internet explorer a lock icon comes up to let me know i am secure how does firefox work in this case?

The favicon (the icon before the address) should have a blue or green box around it if you are on a secure connection (it should also say https://..... after it). Click the favicon and security information (including a padlock) will be displayed to verify the connection. (Green is more secure.)
