I'm having the same problem. Just started today. Is there a solution for this? Can you confirm a couple of points.

How many Profiles do you have? Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'show Folder' button it will open a new window showing profile folders and files click on 'Profiles' - see image below. My example shows one xxxxxxxx.default folder and I am viewing its contents. Do you have one or two?

re Local Folder: click on 'Mail' folder What do you have listed? eg: mail.comcast-1.net mail.comcast-4.net Feeds smart mailboxes - confirm you have this one

Do you have two Local Folders listed? eg: Local Folders and Local Folders-1

Do you keep any emails in Local Folders? Please click on each one and tell me which one has the emails.

then close the window.

In thunderbird: Tools > Account Settings > Local Folders What is the account name shown? under Local directory please copy paste the line and paste info in this question.

What Windows OS are you currently using? Did you ever move/copy a Profile from a computer running eg: XP into the current computer?

Please make sure you have done this; you have two copies of 'prefs.js' file on your desktop. One will be called 'prefs.js' the other may have an additional number eg: prefs(2).js

Info on how to do this: In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'show Folder' button it will open a new window showing profile folders and files

Close Thunderbird now - this is important.

look for prefs.js file right click on file. Select copy and paste it onto the desktop - this one you need to edit. Repeat to get a second one - prefs(2).js - This will act as the 'original' copy and backup.

right click on 'prefs.js and choose to open with 'notepad'.

Assuming: you have one profile called 5yqb6qjb.starman use Local Folders have smartfolders

In all cases, look for the first lines and correct it using the second lines.

1. Look for these lines:

• user_pref("mail.root.none", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\Owner\\Application Data\\Thunderbird\\Profiles\\4yg5xxcf.Starman\\Mail");

It is possible that you no longer use the 'News' ? I notice that you now use a 'Feeds' - mail.server.server5.directory

If you do not use News any more- the one which you used on the old XP computer it - it is an old account. then delete the following line.

• user_pref("mail.root.nntp", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\Owner\\Application Data\\Thunderbird\\Profiles\\4yg5xxcf.Starman\\News");

Now save the prefs.js file.

Make sure Thunderbird is Closed - very important. Copy paste this edited 'prefs.js' file into your Profile folder overwriting the currently used 'prefs.js' file.

Then open Thunderbird and report back on results.

Don't know if it fixed my issues, but what it did do was loose all my email back to 2007. Nothing in my inbox since 2007. I went back to the original pref.js file so I could get my mail back. Now what?

According to prefs there is only a 'Local Folders' user_pref("mail.server.server1.name", "Local Folders"); user_pref("mail.server.server1.hostname", "Local Folders");

But in the prefs.js file, these lines point to 'Local Folders-1'

make sure Thunderbird is closed. Edit the lines changing the 'Local Folders-1' to 'Local Folders' Save file and copy paste as before. Open thunderbird.
