Managed to create duplicate bookmarks that are unmanagable

Think I may have found a bug.

Since I can't sort bookmarks, I thought about editing one higher up my list to change the URL and title to match some lower down. I changed the URL, leaving the name alone for the moment, then deleted the original lower down... and the changed one vanished.

Not a problem, I simply revisited the site and added it as a new bookmark... and the changed one reappeared, with "switch to tab" illustrating it was active.

I've also noticed that I can rename one and the second remains untouched, but if I then try to rename the second the edit panel reflects the first one, showing there's a link between the two.

As android FF uses sqlite for its bookmarks, I'm guessing the DB uses the URL as the search key (but not set as unique). Unfortunately I'm now stuck with an erronous entry I am unable to delete! (but, hey, that's my fault anyway).

Any ideas, guys?

Hi Dungeon, This is similar to another issue that was fixed in Firefox 33 where if you remove an entry in history that also removed the bookmark. However are these bookmarks that are multiple filed in different folders? and where are you searching for them, which panel?

Also does this happen in Firefox for Beta on your device?

Sorry for the delay in replying, been away and not checked back. Thanks for your response, guigs2.

>However are these bookmarks that are multiple filed in different folders? - no... I didn't know I could use folders on the Android version (I can't see a way of creating folders). They're all displayed in the panel marked "Bookmarks". This image here is what I see:

https://cms-assets.tutsplus.com/uploads/users/284/posts/21280/image/Desktop%20bookmarks%20synced%20to%20Firefox%20on%20Android.jpg

The bookmark appears twice in that list under a different (display) name and URL changes to one affect the other, but changes to the display name don't affect the other.

>Also does this happen in Firefox for Beta on your device? Erm.. not sure what you mean. I'm not certain what version I'm using, other than I downloaded it from the google play store. Is there a way of bringing up configuration information that you would find useful?

(I guess I should consult the FAQ first!)

I've not removed any entry in history, just discovered that I have a duplicate bookmark for a particular URL and I can have either zero or two of these, not one.

You are correct, the only way to create a folder in the Android bookmarks is to create one on a device connected to the sync account that was a Desktop version.

The beta version is just the testing version that is coming out every 6 weeks. Version 33 came out today, which would have eliminated if it was an issue that may have already been addressed. (An elimination of what could be wrong so to speak, er type. )

As for the FAQ, I think that there are definitely some questions that are new questions. and why I am happy to help.Firefox Sync troubleshooting and tips

You mentioned that there are more than one username listed? What does this look like? And do you have more than one Firefox account attached to the device? This would be listed under accounts of the Android device settings.
