Downloaded Firefox today, having been a Chrome user for years.

During install the option to add the program to the Start Up Menu I declined, but agreed the option to place an Icon on the Task Bar (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 - all up to date)

A Desktop Icon was also created.

I Don't need both icons readily available, so I delete the Desktop icon to then find the Task Bar icon has changed to the Windows generic 'page' Icon. I right-click but no option to change the Icon back to Firefox so I choose to remove it from the Task bar, but now I have no icon anywhere to launch Firefox.

I check the Program Folder and find the Firefox Folder but the Icon relating to the .exe file to launch the program is also the Windows generic 'page' icon.

So no option to create a short-cut onto the desktop to then be able to drag that to the Task bar which is all a bit basic and surprisingly inept as I cannot imagine a more simple requirement of a program.

My next thought is to uninstall Firefox and re-install it..........but really???

I am at this point purely because I wanted to continue to enjoy YouTube without irritating Ad's, as Chrome have now disabled AdBlock and made us all suffer the interminable Ad's, so I decided to finally make my move to Firefox as this appears to be a better all round programme (according to the reviews etc) But is it? I am sure it is and would like to persevere.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated as I am clearly doing something wrong here?

UPDATE - I have just found a fix by launching the program from the generic icon in the program folder and then right clicking on the open program icon in the Task Bar I can pin the program to the task bar so looks like I may have solved the problem.

Not easy though, this has had me messing around for over an hour. Not obvious what actually went wrong so I have still submitted this ticket as it may help developers make our lives a little easier in the future.

Thank you in advance.

I have had that happen, too. but with more programs than just Firefox - like with Vivaldi. I think it is a fluke with Win7.
