I just upgraded to a new iMac and need to transfer my complete profile from my Windows 7 machine to my new iMac. I tried the manually configure as follows: I updated the Windows version to the latest Ver 38.4.0 and downloaded the latest OSX Version 38.4.0. I copied the current profile from my Windows machine to a USB stick and then brought that over to my iMac. There is a unique 8 digit name to that profile from the Windows machine. I took this file to the iMac and located the Thunderbird Profiles folder which has it's own unique 8 digit file folder name.

I copied the data from the WINDOWS Profile over to the iMac profile folder retaining the naming convention from the OSX version of Thunderbird.

When I opened up Thunderbird, just a blank slate as if nothing transferred over. I have a very large amount of business data that I really need to have on one machine (the iMac) and need to somehow get this right. I did read about creating a new profile for the OSX version of Thunderbird but where do I do this?

I was hoping for a seamless transfer but perhaps no such luck. I am really not wanting to have email on one machine and the balance of my business files on the iMac.

Could someone be so kind as to outline the steps for creating a new profile on the OSX version and then the steps to successfully transfer my Windows profile over to the iMac so that all of my settings, email and data are retained?

Thanks

That sounds like you did everything right. To check you use the correct profile: At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory > Open Directory.

This will open the profile directory with a file manager. Verify that this is your iMac profile folder.
