Tabs are restored automatically after I have deleted them the previous day
Sometimes I close Firefox with the windows and tabs left open because I plan to use them the next day. I also close tabs after a crash when I have been running too many programs at the same time. When I open Firefox the next day, I'm asked which of my previous windows and tabs I want to restore and even though I only indicate certain ones, when they are restored there are old tabs that open up with them and I have to go through and delete each of the old tabs again. Today I tried not restoring anything, which closed Firefox. When I opened it again, the same window that I had unchecked was asking to be restored. I unchecked the window and closed Firefox several more times and then decided to open the window......this time there was a string of about 50 old tabs that opened up with the window!

I appreciate the the solutions that I was sent, but they were too complicated for me to implement because I don't have enough computer knowledge and didn't know how to do the steps suggested.
The Firefox update that was installed seems to have done the job as I didn't see any old tabs when I opened my program this morning!
My sincere thanks and appreciation to all who worked on my problem.

You may have corrupt sessionstore file(s).
Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.
Locate the sessionstore file(s). Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder that stores session data. When sessionstore.js is deleted you lose App Tabs and Tab Groups and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them.
You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Firefox uses the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder to store session data, but this file is only present when Firefox is closed. The sessionstore.js file is created from recovery.js when you close Firefox and is removed and copied to previous.js when you start Firefox to make is possible to restore the session at any time.
You will normally find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:
previous.js (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.js from previous session that was loaded successfully) recovery.js (latest version of the sessionstore written during runtime) recovery.bak (previous version of the sessionstore written during runtime) upgrade.js-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)
You can copy a file from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile and rename the file to sessionstore.js to replace the current file (make a backup copy of the current sessionstore.js).

I thought the problem had been solved, but it returned the next day. Can you think of an easier solution for me to try? Erika500

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.
You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them .html and .ini and .js and .txt and you may only see a file name sessionstore or user without file extension. You can check the file extension (type) in the properties of the file in Windows Explorer via the right-click context menu.
"AppData" is a hidden folder, so best is to use the button on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page.

- C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
