Calendar doesn't always synchronize with Google

Thunderbird 52.6.0, Lightning 5.4.6, Windows 10

I use Google calendar with Lightning, and with the Google calendar app on my Android phone. Often, changes I make on the phone don't show up in Lightning, even after an explicit synchronize command. If I try to duplicate the change on Lightning, I get a warning that the server was updated and my changes will overwrite the ones on the server. In other words, Lightning recognizes that it is not synchronized with the server, but won't perform the synchronization.

If I exit Thunderbird completely and restart, Lightening is then synchronized.

The workaround (restart) is a bit annoying. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

You can try to delete the Google calendar in Lightning. Then restart Thunderbird, and re-create the Google calendar.

If I restart Tbird *without* deleting the Google calendar, Lightning then becomes in sync. It is not always out of sync, but just sometimes, seemingly at random. As I noted in the original posting, when the calendar is out of sync, Lightning recognizes it is out of sync if I try to duplicate an entry. But it still won't sync even if I select "synchronize calendars". This sounds like a Lightning bug to me, but it is not easy to reproduce.

What are you doing in that case?

No problem here. So this looks more like a problem with your installation, or what you're doing.

Detailed example: I add an appt to Google calendar from my phone, using the Google calendar app on Android. Later, on my computer, Lightning sometimes does not show the update.

When I have a missing appt, I try to sync, but nothing happens. If I try to add the same appt using Lightning, Lightning complains that the server has an appt at that time (but not shown in Lightning) and it will be overwritten on the server. I do not add the appt. I exit Tbird, restart, and Lightning now shows the appt.

The reverse problem never occurs. Anything I add using Lightning always shows up on my phone calendar.

I suppose I could uninstall Lightning and reinstall it.

You could. I doubt that this would change a thing though. You could also just follow what has been suggested already. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1207886#answer-1086667
