thunderbird refused to send a message saying address was incorrect but gmail sent the email with no error message
This is the address that Thunderbird said was an incorrect type of address - ESFABOARD.APPLICATIONS@education.gov.uk. Thunderbird sends emails to all other addresses with no difficulty. But an email to this address was handled by Gmail with no difficulty.

What's the exact error message?
Thundrbird refused to try to send it. The error message flashed up for a second so could not get a screen shot or note the error message but it said something like it was not a valid email address format
I tried to send it again and managed to get a screenshot
but gmail did not raise any objection to the address and delivered the email
As stated in the popup the error message is from your email provider's server. Why exactly their server rejects the message I don't know. That's something you'd need to check with your email provider.
