What leads you to think it stops at 19 characters? If the box is too narrow, just keep typing and it should scroll.
If the cursor just stops, then there is a serious problem. I have had that with some web forms, but I can't remember seeing it in Thunderbird.

я скопировал и вставил свой пароль, начал удалять по одному символу и получалось 19 всего.
