This bug started a few days ago. On the same day I had an update to Win 10 and a new Firefox version installed. The only other circumstantial event was an installation of some useless program to "remove metadata from a PDF".

Since then I've lost Firefox as my default browser. When I try to restored it using Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Web Browser it is not listed as an option among the browsers.

I've engaged with Microsoft on this. They reinstalled both Win 10 and Firefox newest versions. No change whatever.

Let me also say that I find it really vexing that this Mozilla forum makes posting an issue so difficult and so roundabout (yesterday I just couldn't get by all the preliminary screenings on this matter to be able to post anything bar a question title) that I seriously doubt Mozilla's will to engage with its users.

For the record I'm using Win 10 Home Ed v1809 OS build 17763.1

Nor will that work, Miss Sycamore.

The Firefox is simply not being seen by Win 10 as a browser app.

Hello, If the above answer don't work start regedit.exe and search for FirefoxHTML

(you will find it in Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML)

export the key then delete it Search for FirefoxURL (Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL)

Export the key and delete it

After that try to install FF again

No use.

Look, it seems a new version of either Win 10 or Mozilla is causing this. Let's talk about this, shall we. Otherwise you have a situation where users will gradually be migrated from FF to Chrome.

You might want to uninstall firefox and delete the mozilla folder as it seems something got corrupted with the update causing the missing Browser option choice. Also backup any bookmarks if saved any to import them back after reinstall. My firefox shows up as a Browser option choice.

Not one of your better ideas, Westie. No change observed.

If you want to respond to someone helping calling them by a different forum name isn't being grateful for their effort. And as a reminder a complete removal and reinstall resolves unknown problems causing the problem. Uninstalling doesn't remove all the problem but sounds like you only uninstalled but didn't follow the rest of the help.

Well, I got rid of any AppData files I could find in both my user and Admin accounts and backed up my bookmarks. Beyond this I'm not sure what more I could do to rid the PC of Firefox.
