Hello, today I was too 'quick' trying to log in to my Email account using Thunderbird, i.e. misspelt my password and retried to fast. By doing this, somehow it has 'corrupted' Thunderbird. On the very bottom of Thunderbird there is a narrow horizontal bar window and when I open Thunderbird it says in this in that window: "MyEmail@MyISP.com: connected to MyISP.com" . And when I try to get Email by clicking "Get Messages" button at the top left an error message box pops up saying "An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.MyISP.com responded:" I know there's knowing wrong with my ISP Email servers since I can log in through a web browser. I tried restarting my computer but to no avail. I'm thinking I just have to re-install Thunderbird and go through the re-entering of all those 'outgoing/incoming' settings, because it seems like something has been 'switched' indirectly that won't reset from just trying to enter a password. But I'm hoping I can just do something else more simpler to reset/clear up the issue. I hadn't gone into settings or anything which is why I know entering and re-entering the wrong password is what tripped up Thunderbird to begin with. Thanks.

Open Tools/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, show passwords, and Remove any passwords for the incoming and outgoing servers. Restart TB, enter the correct password when prompted, and check the box to have it stored in the password manager. Does that work?

"An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.MyISP.com responded:"

This is an error message from your email provider's server. Talk to them.

I know there's knowing wrong with my ISP Email servers since I can log in through a web browser.

Webmail is using an entirely different infrastructure, so it's irrelevant for your problem whether webmail working or not.

I'm thinking I just have to re-install Thunderbird and go through the re-entering of all those 'outgoing/incoming' settings, because it seems like something has been 'switched' indirectly that won't reset from just trying to enter a password.

You'll be wasting your time. Profile files are stored separately from the Thunderbird program files. The program files are static and do not change (except when you upgrade the Thunderbird application version). Because we store profile and program files separately, you can uninstall Thunderbird without losing your messages and settings, and if something goes wrong with a Thunderbird update your information will still be available. It also means that you don't have to reinstall Thunderbird in order to delete your information or troubleshoot a problem.

I hadn't gone into settings or anything which is why I know entering and re-entering the wrong password is what tripped up Thunderbird to begin with.

Thunderbird does not check your password, it simply passes it on to your email provider's server, where it is being checked. All you can do is to tell Thunderbird to remember your password, so that you won't have to type it again and again every time it's needed.

Couldn't do the password approach since I had no passwords saved.

I can log in now though, but from christ1s' response I can only guess that my entering and re-entering the password, that somehow it tripped up the ISPs server for my account - or they were just temporarily 'down' for the part that processes queries from other than webmail.

Thanks to both of you guys for your feedback. It's appreciated.

I hope I'm not asking a question in the wrong protocol. I have a similar problem. An old Verizon.net email account that was migrated to Thunderbird when Verizon dumped California! No problem in 2 years and then yesterday all I get is ...... No recent changes to anything?

" Sending of password for user ltmark did not succeed. Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later."

WIn 10 pop3 port 995 Outgoing SMTO 465

99% sure I have correct password! Can't find any number or real body to talk to in case I have wrong password. Have deleted TB and re-installed with no joy!

Any ideas for an old grandfather who is reasonable good with a computer??

Making myself crazy! Where is the actual server that I access via Thunderbird. I've spent 36 hours trying to call ANYONE that I can talk to re: mail not working!

There has to be a support line!!

@itmark....well..there are two things...the software (Thunderbird)...and the other...who you chose to provide a server for your Email...so if you want to know where the 'actual' server is for your Email....those associated with Thunderbird or people on this forum won't know...you have to contact those people you initially contacted to begin with.
