Sync yields "unknown Error" and there is no indicator button to show sync in progress. "Clear All History" hangs when I click "clear now" button. Many Add Ons don't work at all w/ v.4 reducing tool bar functions. I didn't realize it was Beta until download underway.

Thanks Iowaman that worked perfectly. Now I'm scratchin' my head wondering why Mozilla urges us to upgrade to 4.0 when it's Beta and has so many problems to work out. They even warn v3.61 won't be supported soon. Tractorganic

Firefox 4 is objectively much less crashy, much faster, and much more featureful than 3.6. That's why we recommend it — it's just better in every way.

The Firefox Sync code in the 1.7 add-on for Firefox 3.6 is exactly the same as the code in Firefox 4, so rolling back to an earlier release of Firefox won't help.

If you're having problems with Firefox 4, we'd love specific reports so we can help!

If you have problems with Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox then try to clear one item at the time via the Details button in Tools > Clear Recent History to see which item is causing it. You may need to delete the related file in the Firefox Profile Folder to overcome this problem.

I don't see how you can say it's "better in every way". Just look at the amount of complaints about crashes, hanging, etc. I've never had a problem with FF until this version, and now not only does it hang/freeze when I wake my MacBook up from sleep mode, but randomly it will just hang as I'm trying to load a page. It is NOT faster (I have BT Infinity so my speed is as good as you can get around here, and my MacBook Pro is less than a year old with all OS updates), and it is incredibly disturbing and time-wasting when I'm trying to do work from home and constantly having to force-quit FF every half hour or so. It sometimes takes 10 minutes to load a page, if it loads at all!

I say all this not to whine, but because I LOVE FF and want this to work... it's just not. And while I see lots of people complaining about the hanging issue, I don't see any responses except for "tell us the specifics of your issue". Which we have done.

I love so much Firefox too and want to thanks development team for their job BUT I never had this amount of troubles with any previous version.

Using FF4 during two weeks now ... I never arrived to close it properly, always by killing the process and I don't have installed any add-ons, tried with and without flash and other runtimes and less than 10 tabs ! Constantly freezing ... responding ... not responding (sometimes every 30 secs) ... can't switch between tabs anymore ... clicking on a link does nothing ... pouf firefox is crashing ... or eating all available memory and CPU and OS become so slow until I kill FF4. It append on Windows XP (4Gb), Mac OSX 10.6.7 (8Gb), Windows 2003 (8Gb) and even in a freshly installed VM on ESX.

Going back too old version.

I had version 4.0 and it almost always crashed when I cleared all previous history, which I always do before starting a new session, after booting up the computer. I am using XP Home, with a dialup connection. So, I installed version 4.01, and it does the same thing - crashes when I clear previous history.

I am set up to automatically send crash reports, and it has done that many times. But, suspect that no one is reading those, since the new version continues to crash in the same manner as 4.0.

Never had that kind of problem with versions prior to 4.0.

Seriously considering going back to last 3.0 version.

I have automatically been sending crash reports with the 4.0 version, and now with the 4.01 version, but nothing changes. Still crashes whenever hit the "clear all previous history" button.

Using XP Home, with all updates (SP3 now), and a dialup connection.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files) See:

Nevertheless, versions 4.0 and 4.01 keep crashing whenever I hit the "clear all previous history" button. That never happened with versions prior to 4.0.

Using XP Home, with all updates (SP3 now), and a dialup connection.

Open Letter to Mozilla, When is a fix coming for 4.0? I just went to the page to download 3.6 so I can revert, but noticed that Mozilla has put at the top of the page "We strongly recommend you upgrade to 4.0". REALLY??? How can anyone truly recommend that? I have used Firefox in the past (for many, many years)... precisely because it is stable, and gives me no problems... What happened, you guys??? Please fix. Or I'll need to switch back to Safari. For now just going back to 3.6... hoping the reinstallation works.
