When I switch to Firefox by clicking on the icon on my taskbar, it resizes the Firefox window to be smaller than full screen.

Situation: Firefox is running (3.6.17), with 3 tabs open. I minimize it, and go to do something else. Then I move my mouse to the Firefox icon (with the indication of multiple tabs) that is on my task bar, and mouse over it. It now shows me small icons of the tabs, and then if I were to click on any one of them, that tab is brought to the front, but it's no longer full screen - it is resized. I have to hit the maximize button to make it full screen. Even if I've F-11'd it, it will do this, and it's driving me nuts. What might be the reason (for this problem)?

Do you have a shortcut to Firefox on the desktop?

  • If not, open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox. Find firefox.exe in the list, right click it and choose Sent To, then Desktop (Create Shortcut). If you already have one, then skip this step.

  • Right click the shortcut and go to Properties.

  • In the Run menu, change it from "Normal Window" to "Maximized".

  • Apply/OK and then test it.

This did not work. Let me clarify something - I experience this problem after Firefox has been started and has been minimized. In other words, I'm not starting a fresh copy of Firefox, but am instead switching back to an open copy, to a tab in it.

Try as I might, I cannot make it behave the way you describe. I think it must be a peculiarity of Windows 7 (I'm on Win XP still).

Try doing it this way instead.

  • Hit Windows log key + M to minimize.

  • Hit Windows log key + SHIFT + M to maximize.

Here's a list of keyboard shortcuts which might help too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_keyboard_shortcuts
