A virus that pretends to be an anti-virus program will shut down Firefox and make it close. It will give a warning that makes it look like it's trying to protect us from a potential threat when in fact AV Security 2012 is the threat. Does Firefox have a solution for this. I know it's a little unrelated to FireFox but it does affect it's use by closing it. I've updated Microsoft Security Essentials and it seems to catch and stop the virus however the virus reactivates itself. The virus is still on my computer.

Bleepingcomputer.com is a very reputable site and provides directions for removing such pests.

  • AV Security 2012 may have (1) changed your Windows proxy setting, (2) changed your "hosts" file and (3) installed a trojan on your system.
  • See --> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-av-security-2012
  • Follow all the steps (1-25) in order carefully.
  • If you can not download Malwarebytes with the infected computer, try downloading it using a computer that is not infected and then transfer it to the infected computer on a CD or pin/USB/thumb drive.
