address bar doesn't show icons associated with web sites already visited - when clicking pull down menu
The address bar of firefox has a pull down menu that shows some of the previous web sites visited. In Firefox versions I've used in the past, these menu entries give the web site address, some additional text describing more about the site and also a small official icon in the far left column. I just installed Fedora 19 and the version of Firefox included with it. I then upgraded to firefox-29.0.1-1.fc19.x86_64. Now the address bar pull down menu only gives the web site address and also the text describing more about the site (like an official title). But instead of the icons I only see little squares consisting of dashed lines. How can I get this version of firefox to dispaly these icons. I notice that the search engine bar at top of page shows these this type of icon for available siters like google, yahoo, bing etc.

I checked these preferences on the about:config page and they were already set to true. The problem appears to be somewhere else.

You can check these prefs on the about:config page and make sure they are set to true.

Do you see favicons in other cases where they should appear like on the tab and in the Bookmarks/History Manager (Library) and in the sidebar?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
I did all of the above but no change. For Appearance, there is nothing there but Default Theme. There are no Extensions to disable. When go into the Bookmarks library there are icons associated with the menu choices that are part of firefox. If I bookmark a page it shows up here as a text entry but with no icon. The bookmark toolbar going across top of page has icons for most items like Fedora Project, Release Notes, Most Visited etc, - but not for Fedora Documentation. Each of these has a pull down menu with more choices but none have icons next to them.
When I click on History The libraries show the firefox menu choices with icons for 'Today', 'Yesterday' etc. But clicking on any of these shows nothing. The History feature doesn't appear to be working at all.
The search engine box at the top has a pull down menu showing choices like Google, Yahoo, Bing, Amazon etc. All of these have icons.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

I uninstalled firefox on this Fedora 19 installation by using the you erase option. Then I reinstalled it with yum from an online repository. I installed it this way before but there appeared to be a problem with yum getting the download so I thought maybe this caused a problem with the original installation. After doing this I believe I got all the favicons on the history menu(which also worked like it was supposed to) and the bookmarks menu. But the navigation bar still didn't have them. Finally, I found this like from Google: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon-restorer I followed the links here and it did the installation. This restored the favicons to the bookmark toolbar pull down menus and navigation bar bu some of the icons aren't the same. They just use a sort of "file" looking symbol instead of the web sites official icon. But I will settle for this.
