I was previously synching my laptop and desk top both on XP. I am now trying to add a new laptop on Win 8.1. when I go to set up sync it is asking for my email address and a password. However the username and password I have had for some years are both long random character strings rather than an email address.

What account is it wanting me to sign in to? If I have to create a new account what happens to the sync data for my desktop and old laptop?

Updating Sync didn't work for me to get beyond that "long random character strings rather than an email address" and password; which for me happened with an old Weave (pre-Firefox 4.0 when it was en extension) account that was updated to Sync in Firefox 4.0.

My advice is to "unlink" from that Sync account on the XP boxes and setup a new account using a different email address than used before on one of those boxes. Then setup Sync on the Win 8.1 box and the 2nd XP box using the new account.

Hi, Now SYNC upgraded to newer version of SYNC with Email ID and Password.
