Having done all the suggested options to fix the issue it appears that when signed into my google account youtube videos will not play. The video remains blacked out. If not signed into google accounts video works fine.

It is possible that you may need to remove the old cookies from the site. Go to the Firefox Menu, click on Options > Privacy > Show Cookies and click on remove individual cookies. Look for Youtube and delete all of them.

If it continues please also try to update Firefox to 33 and disable hardware acceleration in flash.
