Cannot disable java applets
Your how to page says:
"Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Plugins panel. Click on the Java(TM) Platform plugin to select it." There is no "Java(TM) Platform plugin" shown in the Plugins window [panel].
I don't know whether this would help with my problem [prevent websites from opening new windows when I click what appears to be a close-window x], but I would like to try it. I really need SELECTIVE disable.
Thank you

Your Firefox reported that it has 3 plugins:
- Adobe Acrobat (for viewing PDFs)
- Shockwave Flash (for Flash content)
- VLC (for other kinds of video)
So it appears you do not have Java installed, or it is so ancient that Firefox has completely disabled it.
Now, regarding your question, what is happening? You are clicking an "x" somewhere to close something and a different window opens when you do that? If you are clicking within a web page, that is considered an exception to the pop-up blocker, since it's common for legitimate pages to launch a popup window when you click a link or button. Can you give an example of where this happens? On some sites, you may need to use an ad blocker such as the following to cut down on their annoying behavior -- or boycott that site.

As with any content blocker, some sites may fail to load fully, and if you trust the site, you can use the uBlock Origin toolbar button to make an exception.
If the message was really about JavaScript then it and the Java Plugin from Oracle two are completely separate things. http://kb.mozillazine.org/JavaScript_is_not_Java
