How do I COPY an address book entry (contact) into another address book so that the entry is in both books?

I am trying to set up sub-directories or sub-address books grouping my contacts. I have done this successfully for several sub-directories. I would like some entries (contacts) to exist in more than one address book. I cannot discover how to COPY a full entry (name, contact information, street address, phone numbers, etc.) from one address book into another. If I drag-and-drop, the entry disappears from the first address book... not what I want. I want to COPY and paste (or the like).

There are no subdirectories in Thunderbird address book. Only mailing lists. And for obvious reasons only the contact name and email address is needed for a mailing list. Create new address books if you want people sorted into groups. You drag and drop to move contacts between books. You hold the control key while dragging and dropping to copy. A plus sign appears to indicate a copy and not a move.
