Can not add extensions in firefox running in suse linux . After selecting install of extension e.g. flash, there is a dropdown with cancel , add . Clicking on either has no effect. In addition is there any to see the page source of the dropdown not just the page displayed?

When you click Add or Cancel on the "doorhanger" panel, it doesn't respond in any way? (This example is https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/ad.../google-australia-com-au-search/)

<center></center>

Do other similar drop-down panels, such as the one for Enhanced Tracking Protection or Site Information, allow you to operate their controls, or in other words, is the problem limited to installing extensions?

By the way, unless Adobe does something different on Linux, the official Flash release is not via an extension. Please be skeptical of anyone offering a Flash extension.

In addition is there any to see the page source of the dropdown not just the page displayed?

The doorhanger is part of the browser code, not part of the web page code. In order to inspect browser code, you can use the Browser Toolbox, although with something that shows temporarily, it can be tricky.

I know flash is terrible and I use it sparingly. A number of things work e.g. save password . I can also click on the "learn about permissions" link. Only the add/cancel buttons do nothing

this is how i installed flash on my firefox 75 on ZorinOS (ubuntu): download the latest version of flash for linux (https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/) as a tar.gz archive and open the archive. extract the file named libflashplayer.so from the archive. from there you need to copy it to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and you should be able to use flash player. an alternative method is to copy it to the .mozilla dir in your home folder, according to this walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RIQpH6lxCM. this method is the simpler path. once you have moved the file to the correct location, check the plugins tab in the addons manager or in about:plugins and go to https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html to test functionality

Can you download and save the extension (via right-click context menu on the Add-ons website) and install the extension locally via the about:addons page (install from file) ?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Running in Safe mode made no difference. I decided to be logical. 1 - Created Knoppix bootable - worked fine 2 - Created SuSE Argon bootable - worked fine 3 - Created new user on my existing linux - worked fine 4 - As old user moved .mozilla directory causing firefox to create new .mozilla - did not work 5 - moved .bashrc so there was basic path, ... still did not work 6 - So now I have to figure out what there is in my home directory that is breaking things

Thanks for the sugggestions.

Is this with Firefox from the repositories or with Firefox from the Mozilla server ?
