Print Preview / Shrink To Fit / Simplify Page all missing

more options

Is anyone else having problems suddenly with getting to Print Preview and then either using the Simplify Page or Shrink to Fit options?? I used all of these features frequently but this morning I tried to get to them and they're suddenly all GONE! Am I the only one who used them??

A new print experience is rolling out. If you haven't already tried menu > Print or Ctrl+P, you might not have seen it yet.

Simplify Page

Simplify Page applied Reader View to the page displayed in the Print Preview panel. With the new print experience, you can click the Reader View icon in the address bar to put the page in Reader View before calling up print and it should carry over to the print preview automatically.

Firefox 86 87? is likely to bring Simplify Page to the new print experience so if you forgot to switch the view before printing, you don't need to cancel printing, change view, and call up print again.

Scaling

In the new overlay, click More settings to adjust the scaling (see attached screenshot).

We're all learning about this new print experience in real time, and improvements are expected in future versions. If it doesn't suit your needs, it's possible to roll back the change at least in Firefox 84-86:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste tab_mo and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the print.tab_modal.enabled preference to switch the value from true (new experience) to false (classic)

(4) If there is another preference named app.normandy.startupRolloutPrefs.print.tab_modal.enabled and it's set to true, you can double-click that one to switch it to false as well. If you do not have that one, no need to create it.

I couldn't see the Reader View anywhere, so I just went back to the old version via your instructions. Thanks a lot! I'm so happy to have it back to the way it was!

Note that the old printing interface will be removed completely in the not too distant future (not before Firefox 88, I suspect).

This page should help you locate reader view:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-reader-view-clutter-free-web-pages

That said, we hope to have "Simplify Page" implemented for the new printing interface in Firefox 87: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1666247

Reader View, when available, appears just above the print dialog. Not every page has a structure that Firefox can simplify. After you click the Reader View icon, Firefox will close the print dialog so you'll need to press Ctrl+p again.

You can use the Reader View toolbar to adjust line spacing (for more compact printing) and text size:

The feature "Simplify Page" is very usefull to eliminate the unecessary information when printing articles or other documentos. I use to use Simplify Page any time. How can I get this feature? Should I keep using the old version of Firefox?

Please follow the steps in the solution to set Firefox 86 to use the classic print experience instead of the new one.
