hi...I recently dl'd a VPN (LogMeInHamachi) and set it up unmanaged. It seems to work fine, creates a new IP address at the top of the box and the power button is "on."

So far so good.
My main purpose for this download is not to create some network amongst colleagues or tech support, etc, but simply to ensure safety at hotspots. I have not tested at a hotspot yet--but on the other hand, Im not sure what to look for in order to test it. I do sign on with wi-fi on my home network though, using my router as an access point, and when I made some test posts in various places, the IP address reported back was my normal one, not the one listed on top of the LogMeIn box. Does that mean it's not working?
I guess what it boils down to is...what else, if anything, do I have to do to ensure that my goal of hotspot safety is met and that no one can grab data from me in a public place?

Any suggestions? I tried configuring the Firefox connection with the IP address given in the VPN pop up box. That made the browser offline, so that probably wasn't the answer!
