Will 3.6.24 bookmarks and tabs automatically work in 4.x?

Given the fact that Mozilla will soon no longer be supporting 3.6.24, I will likely soon be forced to update my iMac's OS from 10.4.11 to 10.5.x, with the hope that it won't mess up my existing programs at all. Fingers are crossed.

Before I do that and before I update Firefox, I will be exporting/saving my bookmarks. When I install Firefox 4.x, will it recognize my current bookmarks, tabs, plug-ins, etc.?

if you worry about Firefox keeping your open tabs bookmark any that are not already bookmarked into a folder. You will not necessarily retain the correct state of them but that will at least allow you to find and reopen the tabs. Firefox should also retain your history which is another method of identifying them.

I am not sure it is guaranteed to retain the restore previous session after an upgrade, however especially if you use the menu Firefox Button -> []Exit {or the Mac equivalent} it may do so.

I suspect the requirement regarding the processor should say an ix86 or newer processor.

If you upgrade firefox it will be from Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 8 the intervening versions are no longer supported. I am assuming your processor will have no problems with compatibility, so there is no reason to try to go from a supported 3.6.24 to an unsupported 4.o

Firefox 8 will support your Firefox 3,6 bookmarks. As a matter of good work practice it is sensible to backup your bookmarks, but as long as you are careful firefox will retain them when you install Firefox 8 over Firefox 3.6. (Do not use uninstall or other options that remove personal settings)

Thank you very much, John. I obviously, I'm ashamed to say, didn't realize that there were so many intervening iterations, but it's good to know that 8 should pick up my 3.6 bookmarks. It would be nice if it will reconstruct the tabs, too. We'll see.

I'm hoping that it will work on my 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, though the System Requirements page says it should be an Intel x86 processor.

If it retains the bookmarks and since I have just, at your suggestion, bookmarked my current tabs, then it should at least find those tabs for me to reopen them if it doesn't restore the previous session. Thanks again, John.

On a Mac I would advise to backup the bookmarks because SQLite is supplied by the OS and not by Firefox and there can always be problems.
We do see a lot of problems with lost bookmarks on Mac reported.
So save a copy of the bookmarks in an HTML and a JSON backup to be sure.

cor-el, I generally do back up my bookmarks onto my external hard drive pretty regularly in HTML and JSON formats. Thanks for the reminder.
