Firefox on Win7 desktop. Firefox's Awesome Address bar has disappeared, as has the normal search bar. Something called Delta Search appears on every new tab I open. The only way to reach the sites I knew was to overwrite Delta's address on the address bar, but now that has vanished. Every new tab I open is hogged by Delta search. There is a short bar that has appeared on the bottom line of the header, plus a Search box by ixquick that is also new. How do I dispose of Delta & ixquick and get the Awesome bar back? Hope someone can help. Alan.

Have you make an antivirus scan with one that i have recommended to you?

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Also see here Delta Search

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Additional to above question. OK. I've recovered the Awesome Bar etc.via View & Toolbars. Why they disappeared after all these years I don't know. Now it's just ditching Delta Search, which hogs every new tab opened. Alan.

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.

Then search the string "browser.newtab.url",click twice and change the address for example www.google.com. At the end restart firefox....Solved?

Thanks Nellus91. Followed your instructions. On restarting Firefox and opening a new tab, that same dratted outfit were still displayed. I rechecked browser newtab and it showed Google, so I restarted Firefox again. This time Google appeared on a new tab. Not as good as the original tab face I've known over the years, but a lot better than the other outfit, easier to delete. I presume the fix was delayed by the Atlantic crossing!!! Thanks again, mate. Alan.

Hi Nellus91, sorry for delay in replying. I use what I understand to be one of the better AV programs, F-Secure. It is automatically updated at least daily, as soon as I go online. I have run a full scan, but, as usual, nothing was found. I have always understood that other AV programs would clash with any installed program, so I have resisted trying any others. Where that odd program came from, I don't know, but assume that somehow I had let it onboard without realising it. Fortunately it appears to have been deleted. Thanks again for your help, Alan.
