I got Thunderbird email so I could use stationery and I am LOVING it --- unlimited stationery for the rest of my life unless they take it out like Microsoft did with Windows. When I send emails with stationery from my Thunderbird email address to anyone with a Windows Live Mail address, the stationery comes through fine but if I send to someone with a gmail address, no stationery comes through at all. I have a gmail address myself and have been trying to figure it out. I can't find anywhere to click on the received email in gmail to show the stationery. Does anyone have any experience with this and know if it can be done?

Most of the people I know seem to have gmail addresses and I would like to use stationery when I email them but don't know how they can see it.

Thanks if anyone can help.

According to this site, open Windows Live Mail, press Alt-H-A, which I think is the same as Help/About. The build no. will be 16, 15 or 14 (WLM 2012, 2011 or 2009).

I'm not too familiar with WLM, but as long as you back up (Export) your mail and contacts, it should be safe to uninstall WLM 2011 and install WLM 2009:

All indications suggest that Gmail doesn't support stationery:

For what it's worth, I sent a message with a background image to a hotmail/live/outlook and AOL account, and neither one displayed the background through webmail, although the AOL account at least displayed the image as an attachment.

Both accounts did display the background image in TB, so perhaps you should try and convince your friends to set up their accounts in TB.

Hi Matt,

I am sending you two emails from my Thunderbird email program. One is with Cloudeight stationery and one is from my personal collection (which is backgrounds taken from pics I have either taken from the internet or from photos I have uploaded and ghosted).

Emails coming right up. Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. When I send Thunderbird stationery emails to my own Windows Live email account with either Cloudeight stationery or my own personal collection (choose file from docs or pics) it comes through fine, with font and color and background exactly as I sent them. The same happens when I send to my sister's Outlook email address. She has the one you pay for, I have the free Outlook and I don't get the background in stationery there either.

I find Windows Live Mail to be the simplest email program and far easier to handle than others in areas of folders, viewability, font selection etc to name a few. But I hate the fact that it doesn't have stationery. I have Cloudeight for Windows Live but the selection is very small. I love Thunderbird where I can get something from the internet (like a picture of real flowered wallpaper or oak panelling or marble or even seersucker) or take a picture from My Pictures I have uploaded of my back yard or my cat and then ghosted and make it my stationery. The amount of stationery you have is absolutely unlimited. Crazy to think that when I first got this computer and had to get Windows 7 (I had XP and they wouldn't give it to me anymore, said it was "out"), Best Buy told me I couldn't have Thunderbird with Windows 7. That was years ago and it has only been the last few months that I discovered that I can. Thank you Thunderbird for understanding some of us need stationery. Such a simple thing, to put that feature Choose File for background. Outlook Express used to have it and when they killed O.E. they stuck us with WLM and took stationery away, telling us it was "better". They lied.....

I doubt anyone would change their email program, I find people are very loyal to the email they have been using for years and years and although it is a foreign concept to me, some folks just don't see the value of stationery. Imagine!

In case anyone doesn't know it, there is a stationery program you can use in gmail but it has a very small selection.

Thanks again for your input.

If you're willing to install WLM 2009, it appears to support stationery:

This is going to sound like a dumb question but how do you find out what version of Windows Live Mail you have? I have tried everything I can think of and can't find it. I tried the press esc twice and then alt FB and I have tried alt HA and a window comes up telling me what version of Internet Explorer I have, not what version of WLM I have. I have looked all over the WLM site and can't find anything that tells me. I bought the computer in 2012 so I probably have the 2011 version. Is it wise to go back a version? How do I go about saving all my "stuff" to put into the 09 version?

Thanks. Now I really feel like an idiot. I swear to all that is holy I was in WLM when I hit the alt plus blah blah but obviously I wasn't or I wouldn't have gotten the Int Ex version instead of the WLM version. Duhhhh............

Apparently I have version 2012 Build 16.4.3528.0331 and according to that website, the latest version is Build 16.4.3522.0110. so now I have to decide if I want to go through all that hassle of switching back; will have to give it some thought. I am quite happy using Thunderbird for my stationery email starts so maybe I will just stick with that, as in, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But I will keep this in mind and do some more research on it to see what the differences are between WLM 9 and WLM 12, (in the Microsoft forum). Not nearly as easy to get answers out of that forum as it is to get answers out of Thunderbird, and I have grown to love Thunderbird also.

Thank you so much for your help.
