Hey, for a few days now, (perhaps even before I updated to 47) whenever I open firefox, I was noticing some major slow down, and I dont mean just in browsing through firefox, I mean in the way that slowed down ALL operations of my machine.

A quick look showed me that the Firefox Plugin Container process was using up a lot of cpu and ram. (It also disappears from the list randomly, perhaps crashing?)

So I figured perhaps one of my plugins was no longer getting along with the browser, so I disabled all of them using the safe mode feature. As I watched the task manager I see the plugin container come back and do the exact same thing, eats up cpu and ram... Any advice/Insight on whats going on?

Plugins are not affected by Safe Mode.

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open the Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Plugins. Set all of then to Never.

Restart Firefox. Any changes?

Oh, for some reason my brain was assuming that both Plugins and Addons would be included in the 'plugins container' and that it wouldn't appear during a safe mode session...huh.. my bad!

I woke up this morning and it seems to be running decently for the moment... of course as soon as I give up and ask about it... if it starts again later I will do as suggested.
