If I want to import bookmarks from "Old Firefox Data" to a new profile whcih file to I export from and which do I export to?
I had to establish a new profile and would like to transfer the bookmarks from my old profile to it.. I saved my old profile in a file on my desktop titled "Old Firefox Data". Within it is a file titled "Bookmarkbackups" which in turn contains several bookmark files by date. The new profile contain a bunch of files, among them a bookmarkbackups file to which I copied the bookmarkbackup files from Old Firefox data didn't work. Also tried copying the backup files to the new profile file titled "placessqlite" but wasn't able to do it. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

places.sqlite contains your History and Bookmarks.
Open the backup folder, locate that file, and Copy it to your new profile as is. If asked, overwrite the current file.

A JSON backup file from the "Bookmarkbackups" folder in the "Old Firefox Data" folder would need to be restored !
Import is for use with bookmarks.HTML files which were exported from Firefox or another web browser which is capable of exporting in bookmarks.html format.
As Fred mentioned, better to use the places.sqlite file as it has more of your data - browsing history and bookmarks. Copy & overwrite the "existing" new Profile's places.sqlite file, with Firefox closed.
When places.sqlite file is missing then Firefox will automatically try to rebuild the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder. So you can remove places.sqlite and only copy the bookmarkbackups folder.
Note that places.sqlite is in the main profile folder and the backups are in a sub folder named bookmarkbackups.
- ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder in the Home directory is a hidden folder.
