I use a very fast mobile internet connection having limited traffic volume. When I click for a download, it starts immediately, before I can read the size written in the destination dialog window, sometimes downloading hundreds of (unwanted because of size) MB in few seconds. Is there a way to tell Firefox to WAIT to initiate the download AFTER I choose the destination of the file and know (most of the times) its size? Or alternatively, is there a way to show in advance the size of the file to be downloaded, in order to proceed with or cancel the download depending on its size?

Thanks.

HI, I little confused. Is this not working for you : Goto Options --> General --> Downloads and then pick the folder you want to download to and check the "always ask". This will cause the download to popup and ask you and also show the size.

There are also Download Manager which would do the same as well as make the once selected to download even faster.

At this time I can not find any solutions for you as anything prior to 57+ November 2017 no longer works. Others will know more but the 2 solutions above should work for you.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Updated answer to reflect : and check the "always ask".

I already have the "always ask" option enabled. As I wrote, when the dialog window asking for destination folder and name opens, the download has just started. If you have an unlimited internet connection that is a positive feature, because all the time you spend before closing the dialog window is used to take advantage in downloading. But if you have like me a fast mobile internet connection with usage cap, that is an awful feature because you end up in downloading 200MB of useless data in the few seconds you realize the file you were going to download is 2GB instead of the 20MB you were assuming. Consider that my mobile connection is so fast that in the time I choose the destination folder and name, the download of files under 200MB is already finished.

So is this Firefox Desktop and a Mobile issue or just mobile ? If just Mobile it has a support page of it's own : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/

This is Firefox Desktop 59.0.2 (64 bit) under Windows 10 Pro 1709. I use the internet connection provided by the WiFi hotspot of my mobile phone, which with 4G+ network is dozens of times faster than ADSL in my area.
