Hi,

I try to group with "group by sort" and "from" my emails. I have for example two adresses with the same name like "Zoom Video Communications <teamzoom@zoom.us>" and "Zoom Video Communications <webinars@zoom.us>". Now I get two groups with the same common name, see screenshot. Is there a way to name the group by the email adress....!?

Regards,

Christian

You may have settings to use the 'Display Name' as a set up in your address book. If you change the Contact details for 'Display' to say the email address then you will see the email address instead.

When you receive/send an email, the email may include a 'Display name' followed by the email address. The sender may have included the Display name or just send as the email address. If just the email address is sent then only the email address will be displayed unless you have set a contact with that email address to have a 'Display' name and instructed Thunderbird to use that display name'.

If you have the email address as a contact in your address book, you can set the Contact properties 'Display' to show a name or even email address.

If you set the Options to only show display name for people in the address book, then whatever the sender inserted will be replaced with whatever you put in the contact 'Display' setting. Menu app icon > Options > General scroll to 'Reading & Display' select checkbox 'Show only display name for people in my address book'.

So, if I sent an email using one of my email addresses and inserted a Display Name eg: Toad-Hall <email address>, (set up in Account Settings) to another of my mail accounts, then that 'Toad-Hall' would be displayed in both the sent and received emails and it would be displayed in the 'FROM' column, BUT if I also selected that option I mentioned in 'Options' above, then whatever I have set up in Address Book for the Contact/my email address eg: 'Display' says 'ME' - that will override the 'Toad-Hall' and replace with eg: ME in the headers and in the 'FROM' column. If I then click on 'Reply', the TO field will show the original display name that was included in the original email eg: Toad-Hall <email address> and not ME <email address>

The Display name which is shown on an email you send is determined by what is set up in the Account Settings in the 'Your name' section.

This means you can send using 'Zoom Video Communications' as set up in Account Settings, but see 'FROM' using the 'Display' name set up in the address book where you have yourself set up as a contact.

Toad-Hall,

thank you for this extensive explanation. This was very helpfull. The problem is: I have to take care of the display name for each new entry in my adressbook. I discovered a nice solution which works for me using the add-on "Full Address column" and added the now new available column "Sender (@)" and get the needed information (see screenshot).

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,

Christian
