Firefox crashes on Windows 10 immediately after launching without even showing the graphical user interface. The same happens when trying to launch firefox from the command line with the "-safe-mode" switch. Interestingly, this behaviour is for a certain user on the machine only. Another user can launch it normally. Tried deleting the profile, re-installing firefox. In the CrashReports folder, there is only a "InstallTime20220519220738" file with 10 bytes size (and an empty "events" folder. The content of the file is just the string "1653942123". Any ideas how to figure out the cause of the crash?

Thanks in advance

InstallTime20220519220738 files with the build date in the CrashReports folder are files created when Firefox updates. The Unix epoch date time string in the file (1653942123) shows the actual update time.

These files have nothing to do with crashes.

You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.

See "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022":

You may also have to install the Visual Studio 2013 Redistributable Package. You need to reboot the computer.

Thank you for your quick response! I installed/updated all the Visual C++ runtime packages, removed and reinstalled firefox, but nothing changed. But this led me to investigate in a different direction: created a new user on the machine and there firefox worked! So I double checked the not working account and I discovered, that there was a Microsoft family webfilter active (just the feature turned on with no actual filtering rules). This setting leads to the fact that all web browsers other than MS Edge are being sort of disabled (they actually get killed right after launching the process, so you can see a window poping up for much less than a second). After turning off the MS family web filter, firefox runs just normal again. Maybe you could add this to the trouble shooting FAQ just in case other users run into the same issue. Thanks for your help!
