But what settings are you currently using ? Post the following Information
In Thunderbird
- Menu icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- scroll down to 'Mail and News Accounts'
- Copy all the information and then paste it into this forum question.
When you say not working - do you mean receiving and sending is not working ? Do you get any error messages or pop ups when you try to 'Get Messages' If yes, what does it say word for word - or upload a jpg image of error.
Did you recently update Thunderbird ? If yes, then perhaps your Firewall thinks the update is a new program.
Do the following anyway to make sure all is working correctly. We have to rule out that the Firewall is causing a problem.
Exit Thunderbird. Access Firewall - it might be controlled by your Anti-Virus program. Is Thunderbird in the list of allowed programs. If no, then add it. Thunderbird must be an allowed program. If it is already added, then maybe firewall is confused - so remove it and ok it. Then access Firewall again and set Thunderbird program as allowed and ok it. Start Thunderbird.
What Anti-virus product are you using ?
If you use AVG or AVAST disable the 'Email Shield'
Reported error An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.talktalk.net responded Other email accounts are fine so not a firewall problem It has worked for years but the last few days has come up with this error No menu icon, I am using a PC
re :No menu icon, I am using a PC That comment is not relevant.
We are talking about Thunderbird. The 'menu icon' is the 3 bar icon located on the 'Mail Toolbar' in the Thunderbird program.
Could you supply the requested information.
Q: What version of Thunderbird are you currently using ?
In Thunderbird...
- Menu icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- scroll down to 'Mail and News Accounts'
- Copy all the information and then paste it into this forum question.
Until I get the above info, I do not know what you are currently using. You might be using insecure settings or not.
Q: What Anti-virus product are you using ? I need to know because it is possible that some AV do cause an issue by blocking SSL. Anti-Virus products do get updates which effect programs.
re :Other email accounts are fine so not a firewall problem Understood , although Thunderbird should still be an allowed program to ensure all ports and protocols are working.
re :Reported error - An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.talktalk.net responded
was that all the message - it usually says why such as authentication failed?
Q: Are you able to send emails ? If no, what happens - any error messages ?
