The Insert Bar in hotmail is not working. Can't use Attachment etc. Have Silverlight enabled. Please advise.
The hotmail insert bar not working has started ever since hotmail was upgraded. I can attache files to my gmail account but as I use hotmail regularly, it is inconvenient. Sometimes this problem disappears on its own. And it happens with Firefox as well as IE 6.0. Can some one help out please?

I had exactly this problem after upgrading to Firefox 4.0. Mozilla deny that it is their problem. Hotmail (who have also recently upgraded) also deny that it is their problem. I went round and round in circles, like most people.
In the end I reverted back to Firefox 3.6 - and everything is now fine. I can actually attach files again!!!
Over to you Mozilla - please sort it.
And while you are at it, I registered to post this by guessing at Chinese or Japanese characters on the registration page.
I had the same problem and after much internet searching. It helped when I realized they called that an "insert bar" I was looking for why my attachment option was gone. I found a solution that works. Turn off your Silverlight addon. Tools/Addons/Plugins then Disable. The insert bar is not coming up properly because of this addon. I disabled it and cleared my cache and have had no trouble since.
Thanks a ton firebirdnc. Disabling Silverlight works. I am amazed that Microsoft recommends the exact opposite - i.e. download the latest Silverlight and enable.
I was yet another poor, frustrated Hotmail user unable to use the Insert Bar within a Hotmail compose window. So, I took the advice here and turned OFF the Silverlight plugin (the opposite of the Hotmail forum advice). Then I cleared all Firefox cache and voila!! The insert bar is fully functional again!!!!!!! Thanks, firebirdnc!
Does anyone know what abilities I will lose without Silverlight enabled?
Thanks so much for taking the time to help out your fellow Firefoxers! Your fix was just that! It went completely against the advice found in the Hotmail forum! Ha ha! What do those Microsofters know, anyway?!
BTW, what functionality have you lost without Silverlight enabled?
Hooray! Disabling Silverworks has restored the insert bar to my hotmails. Now why are we peans out here figuring this out for ourselves, instead of the tech support people at hotmail, silverworks, and firefox solving the incompatibility problem for us?????!!!!
