I have the strangest problem with Firefox 4.0. I've been using it for a while but the problem has come up only in the last few days.

Text is not displayed properly in dialog boxes and menus, while web pages are always displayed properly.

For instance if I add a bookmark to a folder on the bookmark bar, the text inside the cascading menu related to that folder gets bloated (taller than it should be) and some of the text is cut. If on the contrary I delete a bookmark from such a folder, a black stripe appears at the bottom of the menu and the text is compressed in height.

Here are some screenshots, because it's difficult to describe.

Moreover, sometimes the Firefox windows becomes totally black or brown, without any menus, although if I right click on a portion of the screen I get the correct context menu.

I've already tried disabling all add-ons, no luck. Then I backed up all my configuration, made a clean uninstall and removed all Mozilla related folders from appdata/roaming and appdata/local, reinstalled version 4.0 and the problem is there even with a totally clean install. I just can't figure this out, it looks like a font scaling problem but it doesn't come up in any other software...

I've fixed it! Looks like it's hardware acceleration, I had to turn it off. I don't know if it's a drivers issue with my graphics card or what, but that was it. No performance difference, I went from 22 fps in the hardware acceleration test to 19 fps. Negligible.

Anyway it must be some issue caused by the new catalyst drivers, there was no problem a couple of weeks ago.

Newsflash: the issue was due to d3dgear software. If this software is installed, it somehow "breaks" hardware acceleration in Firefox. Looks like it is due to one of the software's dlls. Uninstall it, and all is fine once again.
