Why are important interface graphics missing?
I just installed a fresh copy of Firefox 5.0 and there are important graphics missing including the close button for the current tab, the new tab button, and the back/forward buttons. If I move the cursor over the place where the button should be, the border of the button is highlighted, but there's still no image. This is a fresh install and a new profile. There are no plugins, addons, or extensions installed. I observed this problem in both Beta and Aurora versions of Firefox, but I assumed that it was a temporary problem related to the testing status.

You can make Firefox 4.0.1 and Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)
I'm not really interested in making it look like an older browser. I just want the graphics to work.
since then, I learned that ask.com has been identified as messing with the New Tab button, get rid of the extension as outlined in
See if that also fixes the Back/Forward button, be aware that the Back/Forward button drop-down has been removed use right click to see context menu, or added to Firefox 4 for those buttons you can alternatively hold the the for a second like on Mac 1-button mice. (item #5 in the first reply)
As I mentioned in the original question, it's a clean profile with no addons, extensions, or plugins to uninstall.
I did notice "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications" was an extension installed in a system directory, but disabling it didn't change anything.
Also, the back/forward button drop-down has not been removed. It's still there and it works fine. I just need to know where the button is, since there's no graphics.
