I figured out the solution to getting rid of the MyStart garbage...

Incredimail is a Microsoft product so to get rid of the MyStart issue you have to open Internet Explorer > open Internet Options > go to General tab section > go to Change Search Defaults area > click on Settings button > Right Click > And Select Remove on each Search engine that appears "that you do not want in any browser that you use "

Down at bottom of that page there are two "questions with boxes next to them that YOU SHOULD CONSIDER CHECKING" One question is : Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider and the other is Search in address bar (your preference)

Click on " Set as Default" and you should be done & ok..

Hope this helps you because it sure helped me..

I installed Incredimail and 'MyStart' installed it's-self into Firefox. Every time I carried out a search, MyStart would take over the search process. I tried everything to get rid of it, including a lot of suggestions from various Help sites & Incredimail themselves. Nothing worked! Even disabling it in the Search Engine window wouldn't prevent it from automatically taking over the searches. The 'Remove programmes' utility in Windows probably wont find 'MyStart' and even if it does, it won't remove it. It only appears to remove it. The only way I found to get rid of it was to go into 'Regedit', go through the system folders, delete any folders and files which refer to Incredimail. After coming out of Regedit, carry out a search for MyStart and Incredimail, then delete everything that may come up. Go into the Search engine bar in the top right hand corner of the screen, open up the drop down list and delete MyStart from the menu. Although it now appears that you have got rid of it, at this point you will still find that MyStart still takes takes over your searches, so the final thing is do the following. (This was posted by someone else and was the only thing that worked for me): 1. At Firefox address bar, enter about:config and press ENTER. A window that says your warranty may be voided if you continue will pop up. Go ahead and proceed. 2. A huge list will show up. At Filter: field, type keyword.url 3. You should see a Preference name of keyword.URL in the list. Double click it, a “Enter String Value” input box will appear. 4. Replace the string with: http://www.google.com.my/search?q= Click “OK” button. Restart your computer. If this doesn't work I pity you.

After much research and not finding an answer that worked. I just went to Tools and under Options and the General Tab where it says Home Page I just changed it to Google and it worked like a charm. I also had uninstalled it from the control panel but it kept showing up on Firefox. So I just did the above and it worked.

@csoyyo - how hard is that? :) thank you so much for that most absolutely, amazingly, oh so simple solution. Methinks too many so-called experts have forgotten the simple things in life. Like, hullo, with all their intelligence, none of them, except you, has come up with this most SIMPLE of all solutions. It's worked for me and if it can do that, I'd have to say, you're a genius. Thank you once again.

On the left edge of the search window is a small icon. Click it and you will see a list of search engines which you can then manage. 1) remove mystart, 2) select google (or whatever you want). Simple but it took me a while to figure out.

What is maddening is I never agreed to install incredimail - it installed itself when I was trying to download a demo version of a flight simulator. That malicious crap has caused me a lot of headaches.

I completely agree with DaBears85 when (s)he says: 'What is maddening is I never agreed to install incredimail - it installed itself........ That malicious crap has caused me a lot of headaches.'

With me also, the problem was that incredimail installed itself - without so much as by my leave; almost like a trojan. There must be a way to block such 'malicious software' and coordinated action may be needed to ensure that such software is never made part of good, honest, useful software/ applications. I was able to remove it after a lot of effort. Hopefully others who come to this site looking for a way to end their woes brought about by this software, will find relief.

@DaBears85...

Just found this forum so forgive me if I'm behind schedule here.. The only search engine I have listed on my search engine manage log is Ask.com but I still keep getting that garbage MyStart showing up if I search from the URL bar..

I uninstalled & installed incredimail again using the function " I will select what I want installed" & I unchecked the boxes that said "make MyStart my homepage & MyStart my search engine which is what I always do.. I have used incredimail for years & never had this problem until now & I'm really PO'd with it.. I saw on a Cnet forum that I'm not the only person with this issue. I run Kaspersky full system scan twice a week & see no problems but I'm concerned & PO'd over this MyStart issue.. Any thoughts on how to get rid of it ? I can usually figure these things out but this one has me stumped..

The homepage thing is not an issue with me since I set my homepage way back when & know how to change that its easy but this MyStart search engine is another issue.

Here is the link to the Cnet forum showing others with same problem..

Again I apologize if I am behind schedule on this comment but it just popped up..

that's a load of crap! Incredimail is an Israeli company that has NOTHING to do with Microsoft! Second, this is a spyware/malware, so take it out of IE does not do the trick, it would still be installed on the computer.

I think I have found out how to solve this. There is a program called 'Web Assistant 2.0.0.445' which is listed under Firefox button in top left corner>Add-ons>Extensions you need to disable this. It then offers up a prompt which is about changing your home page. Click proceed to change (it asked me twice) that should then remove it. I have yet to restart Firefox, so may not be permanent, but worked so far... I would then remove Web Assistant in control panel..
