No matter what I do (eg uninstall or removing add-on) I cannot get rid of sweetIM.
I run windows 7 on Macbook Pro. My default browser is Firefox. SweetIM downloaded itself on my computer and has now hijacked Firefox - so much so that even the search window has gone away.

-> Close All running Applications (softwares)
-> go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> select Macrogaming ltd (the company that builds SweetIM)
- OR select other software whose Name includes SweetIM
- Uninstall the above mentioned softwares
- Also check in your Program Files folder and Uninstall from there
- Restart your system
Check and tell if its working.
Thanks. No cigar. I have tried those - cor-el. mha007 - neither sweetIM nor Macrogaming is in my programs and features. And neither appear when I search my hard drive.
Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Uninstall any suspicious/unknown program
- Restart your system
-> Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
Check and tell if its working.
Thanks. There was not anything suspicious. I uninstalled Firefox in the end and told the uninstaller to remove all personal data like passwords (ouch!!!!) and Seetim is gone - jipieeeeeee!!!!!!!
You can open the about:config page via the location bar and do a search for sweetim via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.
You can reset all sweetim related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
- Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
- Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
- Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
- Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)
Thanks - see my reply above. It is all OK now.
SPYBOT WORKED. did all the add/remove. did the adjust add-ons. looked at the config of firefox. nada. Reset home page for Firefox as per their instructions. Got right homepage but the sweetim box was still on address bar. Ran Spybot and it worked.
