I have the same problem and it is Shockware Flash, v11.3 r300. It is also a problem on two different systems. What really happens on my systems, is I have firefox open at a site that will use Flash Player. The longer the site stays open, the higher the Flash player CPU cycles increase until it reaches about 74%. At that time, my cpu resource monitor shows 100%. One system gets there faster than the other, but, both exhibit the same increase in cpu cycles. I have the latest version firefox (v13.0.1) and the latest version Flash player plugin. I have some websites that I use that will not allow me to uninstall or disable the plugin.

What can I do to fix this unacceptable problem?

How many instances of firefox.exe, plugin-container.exe, and Flash are you seeing?

You mention trying various hints. What have you tried related to Flash?

Flash 11.3 has a new protected mode feature for Windows Vista and Windows 7 that will spawn new processes beyond those created by Firefox itself. You could try disabling that feature and see whether it makes any difference. See the "Last Resort" section of this article: Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

I turned off the protected mode in the Flash player. The problem still exists, but, the now it is plugin-container the goes to about 86% and causes cycle to be about 100%. I only see one instance of firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe after it gets to 100%. I was not watching as the % increased. I do know before I turned protected mode=0, I would see at least 2 instances of Flash Plugin until CPU cycles got to 100%. I have tired everything I could find in firefox and Flash. I couldn't find much help from Adobe until your comments.

Another small tweak you could make to the Flash Player is to turn off its internal graphics acceleration feature. If you right-click some running Flash media and choose Settings, then the Display tab (first tab) you can uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration."

Not sure what else to suggest. You could try Adobe's forums?

Thanks jscher, I tried all your suggestions including turning off hardware. Nothing helped. I even uninstalled FlashPlayer V11, a very clean uninstall. I then install FP V10 and the problem still exists, except now it points to firefox's plugin-container as the usage culprit.

I have tried numerous times on Adobe forums without any success. I will try again.to no affect
