Ever since i started using Firefox I have set my Home pages to open automatically at boot-up on my Windows XP. There has been no issue. Now suddenly, it will not access the internet and home pages when i start in the morning. After that, when ever I hit "home page" it does it no problem. I have checked the home page settings; I have reset fire fox but it still does not connect.I have also attempted to follow advise previously given. I have some knowledge of getting around the PC but Im NOT a Techie!! Any advise would be appreciated please. Thanks john Glasgow UK

Is it possible that Firefox is starting up before your network connection is ready? Some firewall software takes longer than others to get fully loaded and running. Wireless connections also can be slow to connect.

Hi jscher2000 Thanks very much for your speedy reply! The answer is I DON'T KNOW!!

I DO see the PC boot-up in exactly the same way as it always has but after the final program has loaded instead of the internet/Firefox firing-up nothing happens. How would i find out if this IS the case?

In my network connection, I set the checkbox to always show the icon in the system tray (notification area) so I can see when it is up and running. Not very precise, but a handy visual.

Hi again i have been struggling to do what you suggest on my Xp. When i Googled the issue i got the following answer "The feature, check box for Show icon in task notification area when connected, you refer to has been removed since Vista per Microsoft Support Engineer". So it appears that I am unable to follow your suggestion on this one.

Luckily for you, changes in Windows Vista and Windows 7 do not affect Windows XP. The checkbox I'm thinking of is pictured on this page (found in an image search, I didn't actually read the article...): http://teamtutorials.com/windows-tutorials/windows-tcpip-network-settings-explained/2

(First screen shot, the box is the second from the bottom)

Thank you for that jscher2000, I can confirm that the internet IS connected before Firefox would normally load my Home pages.

I realize you have to restart in order to recreate this problem, so it's a bit painful to test. The next time this happens, if you try an immediate reload (Ctrl+r), does the page load? Some people have reported intermittent issues with pages not loading, but they will reload without a problem. Perhaps your issue is related.

Good morning (?) jschaer2000 I attempted the immediate reload (Ctrl+r), you suggested, but unfortunately my Home pages did not load.

Quite late here in California. By any chance is Firefox switching to "Offline" mode? If you press Alt+f to display the classic file menu, there would be a check next to Work Offline.

Wow that was fast! and good EVENING!! No it is not doing this.

You said that you could click home to successfully reload the pages at some point, but when trying to reload immediately using Ctrl+r, it didn't work just yet. Hmmm...

Your Reset would have given you a clean cache folder, but it copies over your cookies. In case there is some corruption there, please remove the cookies associated with the problem sites. This will log you out if you use cookies to keep you logged in on those sites.

While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Alternately, call up that dialog from this or any other page and change the search box at the top to match the domain of the problem site.

Any change?

Thanks you but No change I'm afraid. Yes, i can click on "Home" at any time and my two home pages will load EXCEPT when the PC boots up any time. .

Does the home page setting change when that happens?

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:

Hi and thanks for your reply Cor-el No, my home page settings do not change at any time. I am using Zone alarm (free version) as my security.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that works.
