The Edmeister is correct... But in short here: Yahoo has a new (CEO?) named Marissa Meyer, who has pushed some changes on Yahoo users. MANY people online are upset over this. There is a petition to bring back yahoo as it was. The petition can be found on change.org. There is also a facebook group called "the new yahoo mail fail". . . . That is about all that can be done at this point... as well as to spend hours reading users' comments online about how they are taking the change. Your theme cannot be cancelled at this time. Your best hope is to go into the themes and to select one that is two-toned and does not contain an image.

Try to change the theme by clicking the Gear shaped icon next to your logged in name on the Yahoo 1 mail page.

You can also try to clear the Yahoo! cookies.

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

I have found success going into settings (gear located in top right area of page) and selecting "Settings" and then "Viewing email"

Under the category of "Mail version" select "Basic" and you will see a red note appear that reads: "Changing this setting will automatically refresh mail when you click Save"

Click "Save" and you are all set. If you want to undo this change, you can always select "Switch to the newest Yahoo Mail" in the same area where the gear used to appear.
