Is there a group that is porting the firefox, thunderbird and/or seamonkey to IBM AIX(5.3, 6.1 and/or 7.1)?

Just trying to find a newer version of firefox, thunderbird and seamonkey for my IBM AIX (5.3 and 7.1) systems. Wondering if anyone in this forum knows of anyone trying to port one of the latest version to AIX. (I am using firefox 3.6.28, thunderbird 3.1.20 and seamonkey 1.1.18) Really need to update these products. Unable to fully access a lot of sites. Would appreciate help locating a never version that runs on my system.

I take it you mean Thunderbird, not Mozilla. The Mozilla Application Suite is a discontinued product that's much older than Firefox 3.6.28 (the last version is dated April 21st, 2006).

You may find references to the VisualAge C++ compiler that is normally needed to build. IBM renamed this product to XL C/C++.

Sorry, the situation hasn't changed (935325, 959919). I suggest you direct this question either at IBM support, or at the AIX forum.

I have talked to IBM Support. They will not tell me if they are working on a port of a newer version. (Have not posted anything at the AIX Forum for years!

I usually do not get any help from the people at the Forum!)

If I wanted to give it a try; how do I locate the full source tree for the Linux version of firefox, mozilla and seamonkey?

Hi,

Thanks for the link! For some reason I have a difficult time finding

the link to the source tree. Long ago it was really easy.

I do not have IBM XL C/C++. The only C/C++ compiler I have is

gcc. Is it possible to compile the source trees using gcc? (I also have four programs that perform the make function. I have make, gmake, linux make and smake.)

Once everthing is downloaded I will have to check to see if

I have all the prereqs.... I also have to set thing up so that the compile/link will use IBM Linux toolkit.

This is not going to be fun....
Wish I could convince IBM to port one of the newer version of

firefox and thunderbird. (The version I am using were created by Uli Link. IBM just provides a version of firefox.)

 Thanks again for the help!

Not accoding to ancient documentation for the defunct Mozilla Suite. Third-party sites also mention building Firefox on AIX using VisualAge C++. I suppose something may have changed in the meantime, but the chance seems slim to me. The Unix/Linux Prerequisites article, All Other Systems section is probably the only relevant up-to-date documentation.
