Using Windows 7, above the menu bar there is a bar/line that describes the page I'm on. So right now, it has the little Firefox globe symbol followed by "Ask a Question[Mozilla Support - Mozilla Firefox." This line is completely unnecessary, since the windows tabs give the same info. To be clear, I do not want to remove my menu bar and replace it with the orange Firefox button that you click on and get the "menu bar drop down box". As often as we use the menu bar, I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to create the extra work involved using this orange drop down button. It's an extra click, and a trickier mouse maneuver. How can I get rid of the useless info line above the menu bar?

Hello peacefultrev,

I believe from your question you wish to remove the window title-bar, while keeping the menu bar available.

I have two solutions for you to try. One requires no plugin and the other requires the installation of a plugin.

No plugin option: This option hides the the window title while also removing the menu bar. The menu bar can then be reactivated and viewed simply by pressing "Alt" which shows the menu bar until you click away from it. To do this:

  1. Right click on the tab bar and disable "Menu Bar".
  2. Whenever you which to use the menu bar, tap "Alt" on your keyboard.
  3. When you click away from the menu bar the windows title will disappear until you tap "Alt" again.

Plugin Option: You can download this plugin called Hide Caption Titlebar Plus which can be customized to suit your needs. I cannot provide support on this plugin as I have not used it myself.

I hope one of these solutions will suit your needs.

You will always see the Windows title bar if you have the menu bar visible.
The only way to hide the title bar with the title of the currently selected tab is to hide the menu bar or run Firefox in full screen mode.
