this seems to only happen with docs that have been scanned. It also did not happen until I updated to Firefox 31. It does not happen when I use I Explorer. I have the problem even when Firefox is not open, and I'm just in my email program Email is Outlook.

Did you ever select Firefox as the application to handle a file?

You get tabs opening endlessly if you select the Firefox program to handle a file when you get an "Open with" dialog.

Rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
