Okay, I have read, tried and tried and tried again, but I am unable to add a webpage to the about:newtab.

Lets make this simple, I want to add http://www.google.com to the about:newtab. Should I already have the about:newtab open, or should I go to http://www.google.com and do something there?

Can anyone explain, step-by-step, on how to add pages to the about:newtab. Also, lets say you delete all the default about:newtab sites, and you want to get them back. Can anyone explain how to do that?

I would really appreciate any and all help. Thank You. Davide

Do you want change the top sites?

Or do you want change the url of the newtab?

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Type browser.newtab.url in the search box to find it on the list.
  4. Double-click on browser.newtab.url and type in about:newtab in the window that pops up.

Restart Firefox and open a new tab to make sure the change was made.

You can change the order of the boxes on the about:newtab page and drag an item to a different tile to pin it to that position or you can remove a website by clicking the close X to block that URL. You can drag a bookmark or history item and drop them in a tile on the about:newtab page to pin them and have your own favorites sites showing.

Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in prefs that you can find on the about:config page.

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites that you have pinned to a tile.
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites that you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile.
