hi fleytman, please uninstall the 32bit version (or your existing firefox installation in the c:\program files (x86)\ folder) before you install the 64bit version - then firefox shouldn't detect & update the version in the existing folder but install into the "right" directory straight ahead.
I want have 32 and 64 bit version on my pc. Firefox can be in other place and take one settings. Nightly and developer build does not require the removal of the firefox, 64 bit version too. I can easily change directory to the right, but inexperienced or inattentive user can overwrite a 32-bit version of 64-bit
P.S. Excuse me for my bad english.
You can do a custom installation and install each version in a different program folder and make sure that the "Launch Firefox now" checkbox doesn't have a tick.
It is best to use separate profile folders for each version.
I know about the custom install, and wrote about it in the last message.
64 bit programs can not be installed in the program files (x86). 32 bit programs can not be installed in the program files on 64 bit version windows. Microsoft special make 2 folder.
I am sure that inexperienced users will have a lot of problems due to the fact that the installer attempts firefoh 64 bit version 32 bit upgrade, rather than installed as an independent version.
PLS read info about program files https://www.google.ru/search?ie=UTF-8&hl=ru&q=64%20bit%20and%20program%20files&gws_rd=ssl
