I'm supporting another user who is running OpenSuSE 13.2 with Firefox 43.0.3 and she called me with a problem that she can't go to any websites without doing a search. When she enters Firefox, it displays her home page (Yahoo.com) with the one tab displayed. There is no address bar, search bar, bookmarks, menu button, etc. The entire line is missing from her display. We've tried rebooting with no change. It's likely to be an option that's gotten turned on/off but we have no way to change it.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

When you are in Full Screen mode, hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear. You can use one of these to leave Full Screen mode:

  • press the F11 key
  • click the Maximize button at the right end of the Tab bar
  • click the Full Screen button in the "3-bar" menu button drop-down list
  • right-click empty space on a toolbar and click "Exit Full Screen Mode"

Try to rename (or delete) the xulstore.json file in the Firefox profile folder. You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Try to push F10, than choose View > Customize. The customize interface will open, where you can drag and drop the UI elements where they should be, if you do not see them.

If it does not help, try to Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode or Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

The function key solutions did not help. The function keys worked as expected, F11 went to full screen mode and back, F10 brought up a menu which had the usual FILE menu but didn't give me access to the function mentioned.

The final solution was to restore the $HOME/.mozilla/Firefox directory from a backup which fully restored the options.
