I can't download emails from Tiscali account
This started affecting my wifes account a couple of days ago. No changes made in the settings in Thunderbird or Tiscali end. My account is unaffected. Talk Talk haven't been able to resolve the issue.
When Thunderbird tries to retrieve emails from my wifes account the following error appears
"Sending of Password for User *****.******@tinyworld.co.uk did not succeed. Mail server pop.tiscali.co.uk responded: proxy authentication failed"
this is followed by another pop up box saying Login failed
"Login to server pop.tiscali.co.uk failed"
it then gives the option to enter a New Password - which I have completed with the correct password.
Moving on a bit I have now changed my wifes password in Talk Talk (Tiscali/tinyworld) and waited for a while for this to register.
I can, and always have been able to log in to her account using TALKTALK webmail, but still can't using her old or new password using Thunderbird.
Its a POP3, Port 110, not sure what else you need.
One further bit of info is that my wife and I have tablets and use different email clients - I've now tried a few - some work, some don't. So I'm pretty confused at the moment. Have spent the best part of 2 days fiddling around trying out different things - all to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Colin

Hi Matt,
I've disabled email scanning in Norton.
Now getting a different error The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop.tiscali.co.uk responded: cannot open file '/nfs2/mailgb/mail_29/15/03/name.surname%tinyworld.co.uk/0A70003958A16FFA.msg' errno 2, file does not exist.
Googled that and found the problem. There were 2 emails on the last page of my wifes webmail with no sender/heading and -1bytes.
Deleted them both in webmail, reloaded Thunderbird and all the backlog of emails flew in.
I think I'll leave Norton to not scan emails as that was part of the problem and from what I can make out doesn't really work that well with Thunderbird anyway.
Thanks for you help

what anti virus are you using. They often make themselves proxies.
Hi Matt, I'm using Norton 360.
I did wonder if it might involved somehow, but because it only affected my wifes tinyworld account and not mine as well, I thought it may be something else.
The other thing that led me away from this is that her tablets email client stopped at pretty much the same time and that uses different AV.
Not sure where to look in Norton or what needs to be changed.
Thanks
Colin
