How do I increase font size in Firefox 57?

I've used Theme Font & Size Changer for years to enlarge Firefox's font. I was just updated to Firefox 57, & the font (on toolbars, tabs,etc) is so tiny. TF&SC no longer works in 57. Is there another way to enlarge so I don't have to squint? (To be clear, I'm not asking how to increase font on a webpage)

(3) Double-click layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and change its value to 1.25

Using layout.css.devPixelsPerPx 1.25 isn't sulution for me as it also increases font size in displayed web pages. I want to change font size in FF toolbars and menus ONLY.

In previous versions of FF I used Theme Font & Size Changer Addon but in FF57 it isn't able to change font size. Author off addon informed about that.

Is it so hard for Mozilla developers to add separate font size changing feature working ONLY for toolbars and menus?!

That is what I need too...the LARGER size for the toolbars and menus.

They have canceled that Theme Font and Size Changer addon...it was very helpful for visually challenged folks...not sure why it was taken away.

I hope they bring it back.

Theme Font & Size Changer is compatible with Firefox 57.

Theme Font & Size Changer isn't able to change font size in FF57. Author of addon added this information: "Because of the new extension system on Firefox, most of the functionality of the Theme Font & Size Changer is not available any more. You can read more about this new system here."

Since few years Firefox has a problem with tiny size of fonts in toolbars and menus for many people.

FF developers never added separate font size changing feature for toolbars and menus ONLY because there were no big pression on that as tens of thousands of people used Theme Font & Size Changer add-on.

But this add-on doesn't work in FF57 and matching to the information of its author will not work due new extension system of FF. Now I have a real problem with using new FF as menus and toolbars texts are way too small for me.

What can we do? Will the FF developers add separate font size changing feature for toolbars and menus ONLY or will we be forced to change the browser?

(1) There are extensions that can adjust the page zoom level after you increase the global level. For example:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/zoom-page-we/

It's a little difficult to find its global default setting for websites, but you can counteract the global setting, for example:

Global setting 1.25 + Zoom Page default 80% => pages at 100%

(2) There is a change under consideration to have two settings, one for the UI area and one for the content area, but it is not done yet.

ad (1). I know I can set global setting to 1.25 and zoom page down to the 80% but it is very inconvenient. I will need to do it every time visiting new web page.

ad (2). It would be the best solution. I'm surprissed it wasn't done earlier. This problem affects so many people. Most of Theme Font & Size Changer add-on used it just to fix this issue. It has about 100 000 of users.

I'll just add my name to the list of disgruntled folks here complaining about the absolutely BIZARRE situation - whereby the native Firefox toolbar text is tiny beyond belief - with no way of changing it -WTF?

:~)

I'm staying at FF 56, and using Safari as need be (regrettably), until either FF or TF&SC gets it together ...

Well, that was the point of suggesting you set a default page zoom level in Zoom Page WE to apply to all pages with one setting. I'm attaching an old screenshot, I don't know if this is still where you set the 80%.

I attach a partial screenshot of the small text issue....

Is this really how the toolbar font should look? Apart from the tiny text, there's a bold bar at the end of text lines that are truncated - it doesn't look right to me. Personally I believe the font should be the same size as the very top line in the attached image (or at the very least made bold)

How do you post in extension reviews? I can log in, however, there is not a field to comment! Anyway, as it is being stated by dozens, v57 is a disaster in that our customized rendering via Theme Font & Size Changer is lost. I was able to get bold font in my Bookmarks Toolbar via a script, however, I assume the font was not the correct size because the arrow at the end of the toolbar, which opened a vertical list of bookmarks was missing. What I have not been able to address is changing the "tiny" font size in bookmarks and toolbar bookmarks. I'll be on v56 for a while!

I tested solution with Zoom Page WE you proposed and it works as you told. I accept that as temporary solution until Firefox developers will add two separate settings, one for the UI area and one for the content area.

I may mark it as solved if you add it also in question I posted myself (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1186162)

Hi ad_verbum, I'm glad you found a working combination. I tried to combine all the parts into one post here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1186162#answer-1032747

Hi loftboy, that's not Firefox 57. Let's discuss the issue with ESR 52 in your new thread here:

Apologies - however, I have the exact same issue with my other machine which IS running FireFox 57 ;-)

Hi loftboy, for Firefox 57, please try the combination approach:

Global Zoom Factor

This will enlarge both the toolbar area and the content area:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste pix and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and change its value to 1.25 and click OK, which corresponds to 125% font size in Windows display settings. The toolbar area should enlarge after a few moments. Too small? Try 1.5 and see whether that suits you better. And so on. If you are on Mac and use a Retina display, anything below 2.0 may be smaller than what you started with, so start with 2.0.

Important: Do not go below 1.0 because it may become too tiny to edit.

Websites Too Big?

You can counteract the global zoom with an extension that allows you to reduce zoom on all pages as you open them. You can still fine-tune the zoom level on sites, but this will normalize them.

For example:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/zoom-page-we/

It's a little difficult to find its global default setting for websites, but you can counteract the global setting, for example:

  • Global setting 1.25 + Zoom Page default 80% => pages at 100%
  • Global setting 1.5 + Zoom Page default 75% => pages at 100%
  • Global setting 2.0 + Zoom Page default 50% => pages at 100%

I attached a screenshot in the earlier reply: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1184537?page=2#answer-1031635

Thankyou for trying to fix a basic problem - which is the font - your solution does work - to an extent - but more user customization is crying out for implementation ;-)
