In my XP system, the initial user defined page loads OK. However, your recent automatic update crashes when it tries to go to another user defined page. Mozilla can confirm it has the latest updates, but it will not submit the crash report! As you said you would not update XP systems after september 2017, I feel you are morally obliged to fix this asap.

Lastest FF doesn't support older O/S. Your going to have to go to the newer O/S Windows 10 if you want to use a more up to date Browser.

The September 2017 is a old misinformed comment you may have seen somewhere.

Firefox 52 ESR still runs on WinXP/Vista and the last security and allowed stability fixes update 52.8.0 ESR will be out on May 8, 2018.

Firefox 53.0 and later has dropped support of WinXP/Vista.

Mozilla does not/did not provide updates to the old EOL Windows XP OS itself as that was done by Microsoft.
